Many are eager to get back to life before Covid, including returning to international travel. As of writing, two-thirds of countries have opened their borders to tourists again. However, requirements for entry differ in each location and by vaccination status.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issues multiple travel advisories for interested nomads. While travelers can choose to follow the CDC recommendations, they must adhere to the country’s regulations. Otherwise, they could find themselves on a plane back home as soon as they land.
Albania may not be the first country that comes to mind when you think of international travel. But the country has beautiful beaches, cities, and mountain ranges. If the scenery in this atypically traveled country does not appeal to you, maybe it lacks COVID requirements.
Travelers do not need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test, and they do not need to quarantine when they arrive. However, U.S. tourists will need to submit to a health screening upon arrival.
The health screening is a temperature check to confirm those coming into the country are not running a fever. In addition, anyone 11 years of age and older must wear masks indoors and when using public transportation.
Albania limits outdoor meetings to a max of 50 people. But residents and tourists do not need to wear a mask outdoors.
The country has a daily curfew from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am. Regulations restrict people from being out in public unless it is for work or emergencies. Although bars and restaurants are closed to patrons, delivery services are still available, so travelers can still enjoy a late-night feast.
While travelers do not need to show proof of a negative test to get into Albania, they will need to provide a negative viral test within three days of travel back to the United States. Public labs will only perform a COVID test on those experiencing symptoms. U.S. travelers will need to go to a private lab to obtain test results.
The CDC marked the country as low risk. Still, the organization recommends only vaccinated people travel to Albania.
